Recently crowned New Zealand Junior Rally Champion Sloan Cox is set to make his first attempt at the Paihia based Rally of the North on October 9.

Cox has normally scored strong results on new rallies to him and despite one of the strongest line ups seen on a non New Zealand Rally Championship event, Cox is aiming for a podium on the one day rally, as well as some strong stage times.

Once again with sister Tarryn calling the notes, the pair will use the Taslo Engineering Mistubishi Lancer Evo 10 that bought them the junior title this year. With Cox really starting to find his pace towards the end of the season, the team were keen to continue the momentum and get another event under their belts in preparation for 2011 New Zealand Rally Championship assault.

The Cox’s have been seeded fourth for the rally, a position that should work to their advantage on the reported heavily gravelled roads.

“I’m really looking forward to this event,” says Rotorua based Cox. “I have heard plenty of good things about it, so hopefully we can have some fun and end up with a podium finish.”

Rally of the North runs on October 9. Crews leave the host city of Paihia from 7.15am and will contest eight special stages totalling 186.7 kilometres before returning to the finish back in Paihia around 5.30pm.
