Blowing the dust off more Group B footage that hasn’t been broadcast since the 80s. The 1985 1000 lakes rally was the fist time that two Evolution cars from Audi and Peugeot would come head to head in Competition. The Sport Quattro E2 from Audi with its 500bhp+ and water cooled brakes vs. Peugeots 205 T16 E2 with 450bhp + and weighing in at around 910kgs. Audi had two E2’s and Peugeot also fielded two T16 E2’s while Lancia on the other hand was back for the fist time since Corsica with two Rally 037s for Henri Toivonen and Markku Alen the Delta S4 sill not ready much to Alens anger. The first day of the rally was treated to lots of rain with all of the three top teams suffering on the very first stage. Mikkola sliding wide on a corner and clipping the country side very nearly rolling the Audi, Grundel also had a fight with the finish countryside in his Peugeot and Toivonen went straight on at a corner and into a ditch. Surprising Alen lead the rally in the wet for a while but once the stages dried over the following days Blomqvist in the leading Audi and Salonen in the Peugeot took control. In the end it was the Peugeot that won by just under a minute handing Timo Salonen the 1985 drivers Crown and Peugeot the Manufactures title.
