Alejandro Cachón and co-driver Borja Rozada showcased their dominance once again, guiding their Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 to the top of the podium at the 59th RallyRACC Catalunya-Costa Daurada. This victory marks the third win for Cachón and the Toyota GAZOO Racing Spain team, solidifying their position at the top of the standings in the Spanish Rally Superchampionship (S-CER). With just one round remaining in the championship, Cachón now stands on the brink of securing the season title.

Tough breaks for rivals create opportunity for Cachón

The Teo Martín Motorsport duo started the rally with the morning lead, placing them in a strong position to clinch the championship early. However, the rally took an unexpected turn as several key contenders were forced to retire. José Antonio Suárez/Alberto Iglesias, Pepe López/David Vázquez, and Diego Domínguez/Rogelio Peñate—who had set the fastest time in the Qualifying Timed Section—all faced last-minute misfortunes, effectively ruling them out of the title fight.

Taking full advantage of the situation, Diego Ruiloba/Ángel Vela staged a stunning comeback in their Citroën C3 Rally2 after suffering a puncture in the first stage. The duo recovered to finish second overall and claimed their first TC Plus victory at midday. With these crucial points, Ruiloba/Vela remain in the hunt for the championship, which will now be decided in the Rallye Ciudad de Pozoblanco.

The intense battle for third included Javier Pardo/David de la Puente of the Recalvi Team, who delivered a strong performance until a collision halted their charge. While the incident ended their teammates’ title hopes, Škoda remains focused on clinching its second manufacturers’ crown.

Championship showdown set for Pozoblanco
