Asturian driver José Antonio ‘Cohete’ Suárez has confirmed to his colleagues at overallmedia.es and automovolismocanaria.com that he will compete in the 2025 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) Rally Islas Canarias with an M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1 car.

The event, set to take place on the island of Gran Canaria on 24-27 April, will feature the fast and spectacular driver behind the wheel of an M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1. This opportunity is one that Suárez has “dreamed of since I first became aware of having dreams.” He recalls: “From the very first World Rally I watched, the one in Portugal in 1996, I was certain about this goal. I came close during the Junior World Championship, but it didn’t materialize.”

Now, Suárez says, “Life has given me another chance, and Chema Rodríguez (Recalvi) and I have worked incredibly hard to make it happen. We’re going to enjoy every moment of it.” He confirmed, “I will be driving a Rally1 car from M-Sport—there’s no other way.”

“I need to test it, see how things unfold, and how I feel, but the fire inside me is burning strong, and I’m ready to push hard in the race,” he added.

It is exciting to see new names coming to the Rally1 scene, and even better to see privateers enter. The M-Sport platform is ideal for this, and it will be interesting to see how this fast Asturian driver will shape up alongside the best in the world on his loal roads.
