There are just 30 days to go until the Intercontinental Rally Challenge thunders back into action on Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Inglés.

A new addition to the IRC in 2010, the asphalt-based competition celebrates its 35th running next month with a star-studded entry set to do battle on the challenging stages of the island of Gran Canaria.

Several tweaks have been made to this year’s route including night stages and the return of the Gran Karting Club stage in the south of the island.

The 1.50-kilometre test, titled Gran Canaria, hasn’t appeared on the event’s itinerary since 2001. But following the construction of a new paved area at the venue, organisers have taken the decision to use it for the rally’s first and fourth stages on Friday 15 April.

Spectator access will be available at the venue although fans will be asked to use a specially designated entry point to keep the main road clear for competitors.

Rally Islas Canarias runs from 14-16 April and counts as round two of the 12-event IRC schedule for 2010. After the opening round of the series, January’s Rallye Monte-Carlo, Bryan Bouffier (Peugeot 207 Super 2000) tops the drivers’ standings by seven points from Freddy Loix (Škoda Fabia S2000).
