Hyundai Motorsport has unveiled a bold new chapter in its World Rally Championship (WRC) journey with the announcement that Adrien Fourmaux and co-driver Alexandre Coria will join its 2025 roster. The French duo will take the helm of a third Hyundai i20 N Rally1 car, competing in all 14 rounds of the championship. This marks a significant step for the Alzenau-based team as it gears up to tackle the next season with renewed vigour and ambition.
Fourmaux’s rallying career has been a testament to resilience and determination. Following a tough introduction to Rally1, he made a calculated move to Rally2 in 2023, rebuilding his confidence and sharpening his skills. That decision paid off handsomely, as he claimed the 2023 British Rally Champion title. His return to Rally1 in 2024 showcased a driver transformed—focused, competitive, and capable of strong results, cementing his reputation as a rising star in the sport.
Hyundai Motorsport’s decision to secure Fourmaux for a full-time role underscores its commitment to consistency in its quest for the manufacturers’ championship. Teaming up with seasoned drivers Thierry Neuville and Ott Tänak, Fourmaux’s addition is set to bolster the team’s lineup, ensuring a robust approach to the 2025 season. His inclusion also reflects the importance of maximizing competitive running time under WRC’s revised regulations—a crucial factor in maintaining momentum throughout the year.
Preparation starts early
Fourmaux’s journey with Hyundai Motorsport begins immediately after the Monza Rally Show (5–8 December), giving him a head start on preparations for the demanding 2025 season. This early integration is expected to help the Frenchman settle into the team’s systems and adapt to the i20 N Rally1’s capabilities well before the championship kicks off.
Building on a strong foundation
Hyundai’s 2024 season was one of its strongest in recent memory, thanks in part to the contributions of Esapekka Lappi, Dani Sordo, and Andreas Mikkelsen. Lappi’s triumph in Sweden, Sordo’s podiums in Sardinia and Greece, and Mikkelsen’s consistent points finishes all contributed to the team’s success. However, as the WRC landscape evolves, consistency and stability have become key ingredients for long-term success—a sentiment echoed by Hyundai Motorsport President and Team Principal Cyril Abiteboul.
“Our shared third car approach in 2024 allowed us to deliver one of the team’s strongest years in WRC, and I sincerely thank Esapekka, Dani, and Andreas for their massive contributions,” Abiteboul said. “For the renewed challenges of next year, consistency and stability across all three cars will be crucial. Adrien has impressed not only with the results he has achieved this season but with the renewed mindset and attitude he brought to his return to Rally1. We believe our lineup of Thierry, Ott, and Adrien will be a formidable force on the world’s stages in 2025.”
Adrien Fourmaux ready to seize the opportunity
For Fourmaux, this is a pivotal moment in his career. Joining a team with a legacy of success, the Frenchman is eager to take on the challenge of representing Hyundai at the sport’s highest level.
“I’m really excited to join Hyundai Motorsport for the 2025 season,” said Fourmaux. “It’s a big opportunity for me and Alex, and we are looking forward to getting started with the team. As a driver, you’re always looking to grow and push yourself, and this feels like the right step at the right time. Hyundai has had a strong presence in WRC for years, and I’m proud to be a part of that for the future. I’m ready to give my best and see where this journey takes us.”
With Fourmaux’s talent, Hyundai’s proven pedigree, and a carefully crafted lineup, the 2025 WRC season promises to be an exhilarating ride for the team and fans alike. All eyes will be on the Frenchman as he takes his place among rallying’s elite, aiming to leave a lasting mark on the world’s most challenging rally stages.
