Australia’s top young international rally driver, Brendan Reeves, has again shown his versatility and talent, winning the Showroom class at Targa Wrest Point at the weekend by a comfortable margin. Driving a Mazda3 MPS for Mazda Motorsport, Brendan set the pace early on Day One of the two-day tarmac rally, taking a 49sec lead on the first stage of the day. He then drove faultlessly for the day’s remaining six stages, winning every stage, and finishing the day with a lead of 02min 48sec.
With another seven stages on Sunday, Brendan’s day got off to a bad start, suffering a temporary electrical setback which dropped him from the overnight lead to second in the Showroom category. The setback only encouraged Brendan to push harder, and the Mazda3 MPS didn’t miss a beat for the rest of the day. The young Victorian was fastest on every remaining stage of the rally on his way to securing the Showroom title, over a minute ahead of his nearest rival.
Brendan was clearly thrilled with the result: “The issues on Sunday’s first stage certainly threw the cat amongst the pigeons but even after losing that time, we were optimistic that the MPS had what it takes to grab back the lead. And we weren’t disappointed. To win so many stages and come away with the Showroom title really speaks volumes for the quality of this car,” he said.
