I covered this year’s Sno*Drift Rally (Round 1 of the RallyAmerica National Championship Series) for Handbrakes and Hairpins, but in between shooting photos I took a bunch of video clips as well!
Rally racing is an intense motorsport – fully prepared race cars – from grassroots entries like 1980’s Volkswagens, mid-nineties Dodge Neons, and Ford Focuses to factory-backed Subarus – drive with aggression down closed forest roads. Fastest time in your class wins.
Sno*Drift takes place in Northern Michigan, specifically Lewiston, Atlanta, and Hillman. This year’s event saw the first ever Production-class car take first place overall. In the past, the much more powerful Open-Class cars have dominated – but the snow renders a lot of the extra power moot.
All video shot on a Canon 7D, mostly handheld. Lenses: EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS; EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II. Audio is (unfortunately) all from the onboard mic.
