Hitchin resident and young, up and coming, rally driver James Grint put in a strong performance on the Wyedean Rally at the weekend to take 16th Overall and 8th in Class in his new Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9.

The Chepstow based event was the first round of the 2011 BTRDA Rally Series, which takes competitors around the country, and with a record entry of 160 cars James’ ability shone through – proving his increasing performance and commitment.

The 20 year old said, “It’s my first time competing in the car and also using left hand drive. We have done testing but there’s no substitute for getting out in to the forests on an event”. James is hoping the move to the new car will help him gain vital knowledge and experience of competing in a top-level car before progressing his career. “The Pirelli tyres worked amazingly, giving me plenty of confidence to push with no punctures. The support we’ve had from Motul and Performance Friction Brakes has also been great in helping us get to this point”.

The event wasn’t without its drama as the cars transmission developed a fault en-route to the pre-event scruitineering. A late night before the event allowed the crew time to change the faulty part and complete the rally.
The next event for the Greased Lightning backed Mitsubishi will be the Malcolm Wilson Rally – an event that will see crews head north to the Lake District and the forests around Grizedale. Follow James’ progress by visiting www.brgmotorsports.com.
