Mombasa-born Peter Horsey is ready for this weekend’s KCB Visa Card Rally in Kisumu, an event that he has only contested once before back in 2002, but feels that lessons learnt from competing outside the country recently will help him be on the pace this weekend.

Horsey, who will be joined by Tanzanian-based Moses Matovu in his Civicon-supported Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX, made his rally driving debut on the Kisumu Rally eight years ago and despite retiring from the event Horsey has gone on to great things as a rally driver.

For 2010, Horsey and Matovu have been dove-tailing commitments in the KCB Kenyan National Rally Championship with a selection of World Championship Rallies in a Pirelli-backed Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. Although Peter’s World Rally Championship debut in Turkey ended in a rally-ending fire which totally destroyed the car, he recently finished fifth overall on the tough and gruelling KCB Safari Rally and will be aiming to improve on that result this weekend.

Horsey said: “I have been working hard on my pacenotes recently and learnt a lot from the recce for WRC Turkey and so will be putting those lessons into practice this weekend. The rally is almost completely new to me but that should not be a problem, we just want a good clean event on Saturday!”

The KCB Visa Card Rally begins with a ceremonial start outside the KCB Head Office in Kisumu at 7am on Saturday 15 April. From there the crews face eight high speed stages around the town before finishing at the yacht club at approximately 5pm.
