Guy Wilks and Skoda UK Motorsport will return to the Intercontinental Rally Challenge on Barum Czech Rally Zlin, the all-asphalt contest, which takes place from 27-29 August and forms the ninth round of the 12-event IRC season.

Wilks and co-driver Phil Pugh were on the entry list for next week’s Sata Rallye Acores but a decision has now been taken to miss the gravel event plus the subsequent Rali Vinho Madeira in early August.

The delay will enable Wilks to be fully recovered from the fractures he sustained to his first and second lumbar vertebrae when he crashed at high speed on Rally d’Italia-Sardegna last month.

“Missing Azores gives us more time to get the new car together and allows me to get back to my normal level of fitness,” said Wilks, who will upgrade to a Skoda Fabia S2000 Facelift when he returns to the IRC. A test in Czech Republic is being planned beforehand.
