Bevan Bertholdt and Danie Stassen made a big impact on their debut with the lab88 BAT Spec 4 in the Sun City 400 in July, coming close to winning the Special Vehicle category in the prologue on Friday before engine problems prevented them from starting the race on Saturday.

They will be looking to give brand new off road racing sponsor lab88 a good result in the striking black and orange lab88 BAT in the 4×4 Mega World 400 at Carnival City this weekend. A new engine has been fitted and the EFS technical team, under the direction of Romano Bevilacqua, has made good use of the five-week break between rounds four and five of the Absa Off Road Car Championship to prepare a race-winning car.

“With lab88’s support and the hard work of the EFS team, who did a great preparation job under a very tight deadline, we were able to put together a very professional effort in our debut event together with lab88 and the Spec 4 BAT and Danie and I will be hoping to show what the team is really capable of this weekend.”

Bertholdt and Stassen have yet to finish an event in three starts so far this season and the no-nonsense Bertholdt, a national championship off road winner in both the special vehicle and production vehicle category, is not one to take a setback lying down. He might not be in the running for championship honours, but he’s a hard-nosed competitor and will looking for the win that drives all the hard men of off road racing.

lab88 is a specialist retailer of high-end cellular telephones, cameras, computers and television sets based in Fourways, Gauteng and has chosen to partner with off road racing as a marketing tool and brand builder.
