The Sun City 400 has been voted best event of the 2010 Absa Off Road Championship – bagging the accolade for the third time in four year.

The event, one of the longest standing races on the national off road calendar, was also voted best event in 2007 and 2008. The event is organised by the Off Road South Africa club under the watchful eye of race director Adri Roets.

“The award is another feather in the cap for the club, the organising committee and all the race officials and back room helpers who year after year make the Sun City 400 an event to remember,” said Roets. “It is also a feather in the cap for the Sun City resort and Sun International who down the years have provided us with the kind of support that makes it possible for us to maintain the highest standards of organisation.

“The incentive is there to go out and win the award again this year, and although it is early days in the season we are looking forward to another successful race.”

The award was presented to Kobus Daffue, Transport Manager Sun City at a function at the Johannesburg Country Club this week. The 2010 national champions in the Production and Special Vehicle categories were also honoured, with a number of special awards also handed out.

Multiple winners Toyota, staunch supporters of the Absa Off Road Championship for over three decades, won the prestige South African Manufacturers Championship, and the RFS BMW team took the Milestone Award. The Best Newcomer award went to co-driver Lindie Bezuidenhout who won the Class B championship with father-in-law Bes Bezuidenhout in the Adenco BAT, and the Appreciation Award to Terence March.
