Miguel Baldoni (Volkswagen) sealed a categorical victory on his home soil after claiming the win in the Rally de San Luis, the eighth round of the Argentine Rally Championship.
The Baratec driver clinched his four consecutive win in the event and with four different cars and within four different classes. This time Baldoni stunned his rivals on board a Volkswagen Gol Trend Maxi Rally which showed a great performance on gravel as well as on tarmac.
Rally de San Luis featured a mix-surfaced itinerary with the Saturday’s leg as the most difficult one since the roads got rotten over the runs. And it was on the gravel were Baldoni earns the seconds which enable him face the remaining stages with some kind of control of the rally.
Miguel came into the final day of action with a 19s. lead over Gabriel Po zzo, who entered the rally with a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX since the Baratec Team couldn’t finish the works on his VW Gol.
On Sunday’s stages there were no surprises. On tarmac Baldoni was able to hold the gap over Pozzo and even widen the difference to 25,5s. to celebrate the overall victory with his family, friends and many fans which cheered him up throughout the whole weekend.
Juan Gil De Marchi (Chevrolet) came in third position whereas José Cantón (Mitsubishi) finalized six overall preceding Agustín Elvira (Mitsubishi) and Juan Marchetto (Ford).
The VRS driver couldn’t capitalized the absence of Federico Villagra who decided to dismissed the round according to what it is stated in the current regulations for this season. In the Championship “Coyote” claims a 70-point lead over Marchetto with three rounds to go and 171 points on the table.
