Two Pirelli Star Drivers, local hero Ott Tanak and Kenyan Peter Horsey, will start in the Mad-Croc Rally Estonia. For Horsey it will be his first start with new co-driver Calvin Cooledge. Horsey is entering Rally Estonia to prepare for Rally Finland.
Peter Horsey said: “On top of the Pirelli Star Driver programme this year, I plan to enter various events around Europe as well as my local championships in Kenya. I have selected Rally Estonia as it was recommended by various people, including fellow Pirelli Star Drivers Ott Tanak and Kuldar Sikk. The roads are similar to the ones I will face in Rally Finland and, additionally, this will be the first rally I compete in with my new navigator Calvin Cooledge. I wanted this first rally to be one with sufficient mileage and similar conditions to our next WRC rally, Rally Finland. My objectives for this rally are to gain experience of the roads and spend valuable seat time with Calvin. My primary aim is to finish without superally. The car I will be using is my own Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, The same car that I used in the first round of the British Rally Championship in March.”
Tanak, who will drive his own Group N Subaru Impreza, says that competition in Group N will be close as many top international drivers are participating in Mad-Croc Rally Estonia.
Ott Tanak said: “We will take this rally very seriously, because there are so many fast guys in the starting list. Of course we will go for the win in Group N but it’s not going to be easy.”
Mad-Croc Rally Estonia is held on south Estonian roads on 16 – 18th July. It is the third round of Estonian Rally Championship and the only Estonian race that is on the FIA calender.
