With a busy rally schedule and schooling to contend with, Josefine Corinn Beinke writes exclusively for HANDBRAKES & HAIRPINS about her outing in Rallye Buten un Binnen/Visselfahrt and the upcoming Rallye Niedersachsen.

Review Rallye Buten un Binnen/Visselfahrt:
Last weekend we competed in another round of the Historic Rallye Trophy. The Rallye Buten un Binnen/Visselfahrt both took place in the Liebenau, and the father-and-daughter crew of Team Beinke/Beinke in piloted their Opel Kadett C Coupe.

After the event, we were both happy with finishing the event. “The other drivers are very fast here, with many of the previous years’ winners being modern cars. That’s why we just want to finish, actually. In previous year’s we were always quite good here too, but I am not that confident today because the stages are not the way I like. We will have to see how far we can get,” said Jurgen before the rally start.

In the first loop of stages, Team Beinke/Beinke didn’t stand a chance against the faster cars in the class. Axel Potthast/Elmar Pernsch (Ford Escort) and Georg Berlandy Peter Schaaf (Opel Ascona A) fought for mere seconds for the overall lead and left all the other competitors behind them.

In the end, Berlandy won by only 0,4sec ahead of Potthast, and Jurgen Lenarz (Opel Kadett C Coupe) finished third overall. Team Beinke/Beinke finished 26th place overall and tenth in Class Y28.

The second rally, Visselfahrt, took place on the same stages as the morning’s event. Once again it was a big battle for the win, but at the end of the day it was Potthast/Pernsch who saw the finish line in first place. Berlandy/Schaaf this time finished second overall and Rolf Schackenberg/Sascha Birko (Volkswagen Golf MkIII) in third position overall.

For us, the afternoon’s stages went a bit better. Even though we set roughly the stage times as in the morning, we managed to finish 23rd overall but once more only 10th in Class Y28.

Preview Rallye Niedersachsen:
For this weekend, I will be contesting the Rallye Niedersachsen with Christian Riedemann in his Ford Fiesta R2.

After our retirement in the Vodafone Rallye de Portugal, we will be back in action for this weekend. We will be using the Rallye Niedersachsen to test and prepare the Ford Fiesta R2 for the upcoming asphalt rallies on the Fiesta Sport Trophy International (FSTi) calendar.

The Rallye Niedersachsen takes place in Osterode am Harz region, and counts for the ADAC Rallye Masters Championship. For us both, we have contested this rally before: in 2009 Christian and I competed in our first rally together here, and we finished in third place overall and won our class.

Although we performed so well last time here, it is more important for us to gain as much experience and knowledge of the car on asphalt as possible this weekend. With eleven stage with more or less 100 percent asphalt, this rally will give us the best opportunity to learn for the upcoming Rally Germany and Rally France. This will be a good weekend!
