By Mark Lowe (Metro 6R4 Online News)

After speaking to Denis Biggerstaff on the Friday before the event, he told Metro 6R4 Online News that he had been waiting for a dog ring to arrive from a UK supplier, but it didn’t come in time so he had to fit an older one in the car.

The Dromara driver also said that the car had not been out for five years, so he would take it steady hoping it would get round the park. After suffering clutch failure on SS3 Biggerstaff and co-driver Graeme Stewart were pushed into service where the team tried to rectify the problem, but unfortunately they ran out of time.

This was a sad end as there were only two Metros competing and it would have been good to see more out. The word from the crowd was they enjoyed the sight and sound of both cars, with some people commenting that it was a long time since they had seen a Metro driven properly around the park.
In the end Brian O’Mahony and co-driver John Higgins finished 7th O/A with a total time of 16.26.6.

John Higgins told Metro 6R4 Online News: “I would just like to thank you for organising the Metro event as it was the best excuse fo giving Brian and myself one of the most unforgetable day’s rallying! Thank you.

“I hope we can defend our crown next year,” he added.

Hopefully now after the first event has taken place, it might encourage more Metro drivers to come and compete next year, if the organisers want to run it again.
My thanks must go to William Fullerton, Barry Taggart and all at the North Armagh Motor Club for allowing the Metro 6R4 Challenge to run in their event, and also to Scott Coursey of RallyBuzz.com for his generous cheque of £250 awarded to the winners along with the £50 for the fastest Metro stage time from Metro 6R4 Online News. It is hoped a bigger prize fund can be sourced for next year.

The prize fund for this year’s Metro 6R4 Challenge was the idea of both site owners. North Armagh Motor Club had their own awards for class and overall challenge winners.
