Asphalt-based rallies are thrilling to witness. Crews and cars push the limits of gravity as they manipulate the traction available to them. The World Rally Championship heads to Germany on 18 – 21 August for the Rallye Deutschland, the first all-asphalt event of 2011.

Trier once more plays host to this high-speed thriller, and it will also mark the competitive debut of the new asphalt-spec WRC car and the Michelin Pilot Sport Tyre.

Crews will tackle 19 stages over three days, with stages set in the Mosel Valley vineyard and the Saarland region with the famous Baumholder tests. Good news for nervous crews is that the 48.50km Panzerplatte stage has been shortened to 34.18km, but it will be run as the finale of a four-stage loop.

Organisers have included new tests, including a 1km test on gravel and completely new sections in the Baumholder region.
