The Itapúa department is gearing up to make history in 2025 by hosting the first World Rally Championship on its iconic red soil. “We are working to ensure that Paraguay shines during this global event,” stated President Santiago Peña.
National, regional, and sports authorities are working tirelessly to create an environment where spectators can safely experience the thrill of the race. Strict security measures are being implemented throughout the event, with a special focus on traffic management and access to viewing points.
“Paraguay is preparing for the grand WRC celebration on Guarani soil! We are determined to make this a moment where Paraguay shines on the global stage,” President Peña emphasized in an inspiring video shared on his social media channels.

Drivers Stress Public Safety Cooperation
“This event will be a turning point in Itapúa’s history. Our department boasts the greatest cultural diversity in Paraguay, and the World Rally will provide a platform to showcase our natural beauty, historical sites, and the rich legacy of over 22 nationalities that coexist here. Itapúa is ready to welcome the world, and we will do so by prioritizing the safety of both our residents and visitors,” stated Itapúa Governor Javier Pereira in an interview.
Prominent drivers are also calling for public responsibility, aligning with the event’s focus on safety. Alejandro Galanti, driver for Toyota Gazoo Racing and 2024 Chaco Rally champion, remarked, “Just as we prepare and ensure our safety during races, you should also take care of yourselves. Follow safety regulations to prove that Paraguay is ready to host the World Rally Championship.”
Blas Zapag, driver for Copetrol Rally, added, “The World Rally is an event we never imagined would come to Paraguay. I urge everyone to respect the rules, as this opportunity could be lost if we don’t. Follow the rules, and you’ll witness the best show for all of us who love the sport.”
Preparations Underway: Infrastructure, Safety, and Hospitality
With an anticipated 400,000 visitors expected during the event, local authorities are ramping up training and making necessary improvements to meet the demands of such a significant event. This includes preparing competition routes and access roads to ensure fans can enjoy the race without any disruptions, as highlighted in Peña’s video.
Itapúa is strategically located, offering easy access from neighboring countries like Brazil and Argentina by both land and air. The region is also known for its strong hotel infrastructure and diverse gastronomy, reflecting its multicultural character.
A Unique Natural Setting: The Red Soil Takes Center Stage
One of the most exciting features of the upcoming World Rally Championship in Itapúa is the unique terrain. It will be the first time in history that a World Rally Championship takes place on the region’s characteristic red soil, presenting a unique challenge for drivers and an unparalleled visual experience for spectators. The combination of red soil with natural elements like water, jungle, and lush vegetation will create a stunning backdrop for both competitors and the audience.
Moreover, the event is expected to leave a lasting legacy in terms of tourism promotion and economic development. With live broadcasts reaching over 240 countries, Itapúa will have an unprecedented opportunity to establish itself as a global destination, attracting future investments as well as tourists.
