J-WRC leader Aaron Burkart hopes to change his front-wheel drive Suzuki Swift for a four-wheel drive Super 2000 car for July’s Eifel-Rallye, the fourth round of the German Rally Championship, reported www.wrc.com.
In his final year of J-WRC eligibility, the 27-year old Berliner is busy confirming a team and sponsor for this home event, which starts on 16 July, and is excited by the prospect of a new challenge:
“We are in discussions with a number of teams and I am feeling confident. It’ll be the first I’ll drive a S2000 and it is also on the Eifel-Rallye in Germany – the perfect combination,” said Burkart. “If everything goes well, I should be able to finish on the podium at least. Of course my target is to win, but I’m not the only one! Like the S1600 Swift, the S2000 will be challenging to drive, but the difference isn’t too great.”
As Burkart looks beyond the 2010 J-WRC to next season, championship rival Kevin Abbring takes to the tarmac in Bulgaria in a bid to steal the top spot in the J-WRC standings. However, Burkart remains unphased by the threat of the young Dutchman: “At the moment, I am concentrating on winning the J-WRC title this year. After that, I will start to think about what to do next year!”
