Entering this event as the favourite, the young but fast David Bogie challenged his more experienced rivals to claim his third victory this season.

The RSAC Scottish Rally, a round of the 2010 Hankook MSA Scottish Rally Championship, saw Mike Faulkener and David Wilson push hard in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution rally machines, but they were unable to reel in the 19,2sec to overtake Bogie for the rally win.

On his way to the top step of the winners’ podium, Bogie set fours scratch stage times from the event’s eight, and he now also claims the overall lead of the Championship standings from Andy Horne by five points who in turn is eight points ahead of Alick Kerr.

It was something of a ding-dong battle over the high-speed stages held under blue skies, with Faulkner and Bogie pushing their cars to their limits in the bid to squeeze out every second of advantage possible. Faulkner put in an almighty bid for the win on final stage, a 13mi (20,8km) stage to claim the stage win, but it was a case of a little too late.

“To come away with maximum points was obviously the plan,” said Bogie. “It’s been a hard day with difficult conditions – very abrasive on the tyres – but we picked a good pace and we’ve got the result we were after. It’s an important win for us.”

Wilson and co-driver Drew Sturrock were lying in fourth place overall, 09sec behind Kerr, ahead of the final stage of the event. Kerr suffered what he described as “severe vibrations” at the rear of his Subaru Impreza and decided to slow his pace over the final 4mi (6,6km) of the stage, and thereby allowing Wilson to leapfrog into third place with a slender 1,8sec advantage.

“OK, we lost a place because of another reliability issue, but it’s only a single point,” said Kerr. “At the end of a tough day, it was another decent result, and it keeps us in the hunt”.

After setting a blistering pace from the start, second seed Jock Armstrong – third in the points going into the event – was not so lucky. His day alongside co-driver Kirsty Riddick ended prematurely when their Subaru Impreza “snapped” (“it felt like a puncture, but wasn’t”) and ended up stuck in a ditch.

Claiming fifth place overall were Barry Groundwater/Daniel Paterson (Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX), with Andy Horne/Jim Howie (DAM 4100 Gti) in sixth place.
Said Horne: “Generally the stages conditions were really good – hard under foot – and there was no problem with us running behind the smaller classes. We were pushing but perhaps not getting on as fast as we thought we should. Even so, apart from the first stage, where our time wasn’t great, and also losing a bit of time on the fourth when we had to stop briefly to allow some dust to blow over, we’ve had a very enjoyable day.”

The two-wheel drive category was as intense as the faster four-wheel drive competitors as Steve Bannister/Louise Sutherland battled with Calum Mackenzie/Alan Clark (Ford Escort). Leading for the first three stages, Mackenzie was overtaken by Bannister to win their Class by just 2sec. However, an infringement at the final time control handed the Class win to Mackenzie/Clark.

The 1600cc category was won by Ross Hunter/Eildon Hall (Honda Civic).

The RSAC Scottish Rally is always one of high attrition and the 2010 edition lived up to this billing: of the 92 starters, only 62 reached the finish.

  1. Congratulations! Good race.
Your name caught my eye as well. My father and my Great-Grandfather had your identical name. David Bogie. The family originally came from Firth on Fourth. Kirkcaldy. James Bogie and several children…settled in Goderich Ontario Canada. Then David the youngest son moved to Minnesota which is where I live. He is buried in Glenwood, MN. I live in Alexandria, MN…15 miles from there.
Any chance there is a connection?
I have tried to connect with other Bogies in Scotland over the years. Many have been older.
Pass this on if you know of someone who would like to compare genealogies.
    Best wishes to you.
